Last month, social media was flooded with thousands of videos from people spitting their best verses to Casanova’s “So Brooklyn” instrumental.
But it didn’t start off that way.
The viral challenge was surprisingly birthed by Cas instigating a friendly competition between Fabolous and Maino, to see who could spit the better verse to the track.
Around the 7:16 mark of his interview with Dirty Glove Bastard, Cas opens up about how he “tricked” people into joining the “So Brooklyn” challenge, being overwhelmed from receiving several thousand video submissions, and how the challenge has benefitted the careers of numerous up-and-coming rappers around the world.
During the interview, Cas also touched on his album Behind These Scars, what the Notorious B.I.G.’s legacy means to Brooklyn, how it felt to sign to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation imprint, and the recent 10-year sentence of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger for killing unarmed black man Botham Jean in his home.
