In the first two installments of his five-part “Survival Series,” Mass Appeal/Def Jam artist Dave East opens up about his struggles, life-changing experiences and love for music. The series will culminate with the release of Dave’s debut album, Survival, on November 8th.
From basketball to hustling to rap, part one of the series highlights different stages of the East Harlem emcee’s life in an unfiltered way. Dave is candid about his come-up: he reflects on his expulsion from college, being unemployed, the motivation behind his decision to take music seriously and how he got his rap moniker.
Part two shows Dave connecting with Platinum producer Swizz Beatz, visiting family in Philadelphia, opening up about his cousin’s death, speaking to students at Temple University and getting game from his label exec Nas.
