Anyone familiar with the catalog of remarkable lyricist Nas knows he’s made several mentions to his slain friend Willie “Ill Will” Graham throughout the years. The two longtime friends came up together in Queensbridge, NY. Unfortunately, their friendship was ended, at least in the physical sense, when Ill Will was fatally shot. Nas’ younger brother Jungle was also wounded in the incident, but managed to survive.
In an interview with Rugged Entertainment’s Peter Spirer shortly after the release of his classic album, Illmatic, Nas reflected on his friendship with Ill Will, what caused his murder, and why he decided to create Ill Will Records in honor of his slain friend. Check out the interview below.
