During my tenure as a reporter for the Memphis Flyer, Young Dolph delivered his 2012 mixtape Blue Magic.
Around the time it dropped, I had a chance to talk with him about the project, which Dolph considered to be the “best product in the streets.” During that conversation, he specifically highlighted his song “My Real Life,” saying it was one of the best songs he had ever recorded.
I concur.
Nearly four years after hearing the track, it remains one of my favorite songs from Dolph. The Drumma Boy-laced vibe features Gucci Mane, along with some commentary from DJ Scream (who hosted the mixtape) and an enlightening excerpt from popular film American Gangster.
